The VIVA 7’s rugby day was held at Frans du Toit High School in Phalaborwa on Saturday, 1 September.
10 Senior and 10 junior teams from Limpopo rocked up to enjoy a fast and furious day of high energy rugby.
Merensky High School’s junior team had an excellent start against Piet Potgieter (26-0), Ellisras (12-10) and Louis Trichardt (58-0), but was bogged down by the hosts (7-10). With this they ended first in their pool.
Hoërskool Pietersburg won the cup semi final against the Plasie team, but all was not lost as the youngsters reigned victorious in the plate final against Ellisras, 22-17.
In a roller-coaster-day, Merensky’s senior team kicked off with a 21-12 win against Ellisras, wherafter Ben Viljoen from Groblersdal trumped them 22-17. Ben Vors-ter managed a 36-0 win, but the Plasies regrouped and won Tom Naudé convincingly 36-12.
In the bowl semi final the Plasies beat Heuwelkruin 24-12, resulting in a final match against Tom Naudé to determine the bowl winner. Sadly, this game proved to be their Waterloo as they could only score 19 points compared to the Tommies’ 40.
